Margie McLew takes helm in 9 NEWS ADELAIDE leadership change

A steady changing of the guard has taken place at 9 News Adelaide, with news boss Jeremy Pudney finishing up with Nine last week and Margie McLew stepping into the newsroom’s top role.

News veteran Pudney closed a chapter in the newsroom last Friday, bringing to a close a career spanning more than 30 years, including almost 12 with Nine, 14 with Network 10 and six with News Corp Australia.

His departure, first reported by Indaily earlier this year, sees him move into a new role outside of television after leading the Adelaide newsroom as News Director for the past eight years.

Reflecting on his final shift on a post on LinkedIn, Pudney acknowledged the end of his time in daily news and the people he worked alongside.

“During my time in newsrooms, I’ve seen so many astounding stories, so many amazing places and, above all, worked alongside so many brilliant, dedicated and passionate people at Nine, Ten and News Corp Australia.”

He now moves into a position as Director of Media and Communications at Flinders University.

Margie McLew (main picture) was later confirmed as the new Director of News at 9 News Adelaide, returning home after nearly nine years with Nine Sydney, including three as Deputy News Director.

McLew also took to LinkedIn over the weekend to share she was pleased to step into the role, returning to Adelaide to lead a newsroom closely connected to its community.

“It’s a privilege to be handed the baton from Jeremy Pudney to lead this exceptional team.”

Her appointment marks the next phase for 9 News Adelaide following a planned leadership transition, with McLew expected to commence in the role this week.

The change follows a period of upheaval in the 9 News Adelaide newsroom, including the axing of longtime newsreader Kate Collins late last year during sweeping cuts across the network that hit newsroom talent hard, as well as the earlier resignation of executive producer Fiona Clark.
