Australia’s biggest musical comedy hit ‘The Book of Mormon’ returns to Adelaide in 2026

The Mormons are back.

The wildly popular, award-winning musical The Book of Mormon will return to the Festival Theatre in December 2026, marking the long-awaited comeback of one of the most talked-about shows to ever hit the stage.

Dubbed “the best musical of this century” by The New York Times, the production follows a pair of mismatched Mormon missionaries sent halfway across the world on a life-changing, and hilariously chaotic, mission.

Leading the cast are Sean Johnston (Hairspray) as Elder Price and Nick Cox (Beauty and the Beast) as Elder Cunningham, alongside Paris Leveque in her professional debut as Nabulungi. They’re joined by Tom Struik (Sister Act the Musical), Simbarashe Matshe (Filthy Business), Augie Tchantcho, reprising his role as The General, and Matthew Hamilton (Tina – The Tina Turner Musical).

Since its Broadway debut in 2011, The Book of Mormon has become a global phenomenon. It has won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album, while breaking box office records across the US and London’s West End.

The Australian premiere in Melbourne in 2015 was equally explosive, setting ticket sales records and taking home the Helpmann Award for Best Musical.

Created by South Park masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone, alongside Frozen and Coco songwriter Robert Lopez, the show is known for its bold humour, catchy score and unapologetically irreverent take on religion, culture and musical theatre itself.

Co-directed and choreographed by Broadway heavyweight Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, Aladdin, The Prom), the production also features world-class design, with sets by Scott Pask, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Brian MacDevitt and sound design by Brian Ronan.

Critics and audiences alike have embraced the show’s outrageous energy, with praise ranging from “blasphemous delight” to “snort-laugh funny,” and Adelaide audiences can expect nothing less when it hits the stage once again.

Tickets are expected to be in high demand, for more info click here.
