Road Trip
We hold our thumbs up to the sun
And helpful drivers take us far
So grateful for each stopping car
We smile and chat to everyone.
We take the ferry to the coast
Through Belgian roads we make our way.
In Luxembourg the second day
Quaint towers and bridges charm us most.
That long road north through rock and moor
Twp German students take us on
For Engleesh Conversation
And drop us at the hostel door.
From grey Cologne still scarred by war
We travelled south along the Rhine
Through hills devoted to the vine
The Lorelie, Hiedelberg and more.
From Germany to Switzerland
Our wanderlust transported us
We didn’t need to take a bus.
Just by the kerb we raised a hand.
Through mist and forest we ascended
By quaint old railways through the night
In wooden chalet at great height
We sank to rest as the day ended.
Oh what a vision met our eyes
Square in the Chalet’s window frame
The snow clad Jungfrau, perfect name
In crystal air and azure skies.
These two jung frau were satisfied
And journeyed back through gloomy France
With many a wistful backward glance
To leave such sights, and homeward ride.
