A routine trip to the hairdresser has turned into a life-changing moment for an Unley couple, after a spontaneous lottery ticket purchase delivered a $1 million Weekday Windfall win.
The Adelaide pair have now come forward as the mystery winners of the national division one prize in Weekday Windfall draw 4675, drawn on Wednesday 11 March, revealing they only checked their ticket yesterday.
The winning ticket was purchased at Semprinis of Unley inside Unley Shopping Centre, when the husband decided to buy a ticket while waiting nearby during his wife’s hair appointment.
“My husband bought the ticket at our local newsagency while I was getting my hair done at the hairdresser!” the winning wife said.
The couple only discovered their windfall when they returned to the store to check the ticket, where staff confirmed it had secured the $1 million prize.
“We checked the ticket at Semprinis of Unley only yesterday and the team members there confirmed it won a major prize. They told us to hold onto it and keep it safe!”
The news came as a complete surprise for the Adelaide family, who said the win would finally allow them to buy a home of their own.
“We’re absolutely on cloud nine. We thought we would never be able to buy a house and now we can!”
The couple said the life-changing prize would also help support their son through a difficult period.
“It also means our son, who is going through a tough time, can come live with us.”
To celebrate the moment, the pair planned a simple but fitting way to mark the occasion.
“We’ll definitely be celebrating with a nice dinner and champagne tonight.
“Thank you for the happy news.”
Because the ticket was not registered to The Lott Members Club, officials had been waiting for the mystery winner to check their ticket and come forward.
The win has also created excitement locally, with the lucky ticket purchased from family-run newsagency Semprinis of Unley — which had already sold another $1 million Weekday Windfall division one ticket earlier the same week.
Store manager Prue Allen said the team could hardly believe their run of luck.
“It’s just incredible! We’re all a bit gobsmacked, to be honest. I even rang someone from The Lott to double-check because I thought there must have been a mix-up!” she said.
“We’re so pleased to hear our mystery division one winners have checked their ticket and come forward now!
“We’re a family-run business and have been part of the community for 21 years. This is fantastic news for everyone locally and it’s brought such a buzz to the shopping centre!”
The winning numbers in Weekday Windfall draw 4675 were 27, 25, 31, 42, 36 and 4, with supplementary numbers 10 and 24. The Unley entry was the only division one winner in the draw nationwide.
