Top 12 perform blockbuster anthems as AUSTRALIAN IDOL goes live

The stakes jump a notch tonight as Australian Idol launches its live shows, putting the Top 12 in front of the nation for the first time.

After weeks of auditions, theatre rounds and showdowns that saw the Top 12 locked in last week, the competition now moves into its most unpredictable phase as Australia finally gets the power to vote and decide who stays in the race.

Kicking things off is movie week, with the finalists taking on iconic songs from Hollywood blockbusters including The Lion King, Pretty Woman, The Devil Wears Prada, Top Gun, Deadpool and Frozen.

Across three big nights, the Top 12 will perform some of cinema’s most recognisable anthems as they fight to impress both the judges and viewers watching at home.

Adding some Idol history to the stage, Australia’s very first winner Guy Sebastian returns for a special performance of his song Choir, bringing the franchise full circle as a new generation chases the title.

The eventual winner will walk away with $100,000 in prize money, a recording package with Hive Sound Studios, a songwriting camp with Sony Music Publishing, marketing support from The Annex and VIP tickets to the ARIA Awards and TV Week Logie Awards.

Fans can also revisit the music from the show, with Australian Idol performances and the Top 12 single available to listen, stream or download HERE.

Australian Idol performance shows begin 7.00pm tonight on Seven and 7plus, continue 7.30pm Monday, with the first live elimination 7.30pm Tuesday.
