Boston restaurant hit with brief license suspension after hosting Patriots players’ raucous party
“Do you know who’s in the room?” a woman tells an officer in one video. “You have all the f—ing Patriots here, and this is their private party.”
Boston police released five half-hour videos in response to a record request from Boston.com. The recordings show officers arriving at Estella, a restaurant on Temple Place, just before 2:30 a.m. Jan. 27. Several people, including owner Helder George Brandao, told officers that multiple Patriots players were in the basement partying.
“It’s just the Patriots players. They’re getting ready to leave,” Brandao told officers. “They’re just celebrating the win. They’re not doing nothing.”
While no Patriots players are readily identifiable in the footage due to the dark lighting, police point out several hookahs on tables, and dollar bills can be seen strewn on the floor.
Police found three nude or partially nude women in the back staircases of the restaurant, apparently having tried to flee when officers arrived, officers wrote in a report. Video shows an officer encountering a woman in a large fur coat and a woman wearing a bikini in the back stairwell.
Brandao spoke to the Boston Licensing Board last week about the violations, which included smoking inside, unauthorized adult entertainment, and after-hours drinking. (Bars in Massachusetts have to be closed by 2 a.m.) Officers said in the report that they smelled tobacco and marijuana and found multiple bottles of liquor.
At one point in the videos, a woman approaches an officer and tells him there are professional football players at the party.
“Kayshon’s scared as hell,” she laughs.
“Are you talking about (Patriots wide receiver) Kayshon Boutte?” the officer asks.
“Yes,” she replies. “Y’all don’t even know what you guys just did.”
Speaking to patrons, police in the videos say it’s not the first time they have responded to Estella for an after-hours party.
“Damn. … But if y’all would’ve known it was these guys, you guys would’ve gave us some grace?” a man asks an officer.
“I mean, yeah,” he replies. “Listen, if you guys are going to thrown something, plan it with the city.”
Police remained on scene to break up the party and issue the violations to Brandao. No Patriots players or any other patron were arrested or faced charges. When some patrons appear to be leaving, one man appears to be Patriots linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson, who someone refers to as KC.
Speaking to the licensing board, Brandao blamed the players for the situation getting out of control, adding that the players left without paying their tabs.
The board voted unanimously to hand down a three-day license suspension, though two of those days will be held in abeyance for one year.
“There’s a sense of entitlement that these players think they can do whatever they want, and that was the case,” Brandao said. “It’s kind of a sticky situation. It’s a lose, lose, and I’ve considered a lawsuit.”
