Good news for the neighborhood: Gillette isn’t going anywhere.
According to a report from the Boston Globe, Gillette’s parent company, Procter & Gamble, plans to build a new $1B headquarters building along the Fort Point Channel, keeping the iconic brand firmly rooted in South Boston.
The new office building is planned for 232 A Street in Fort Point, just steps from Gillette’s longtime campus. The project could represent nearly $1 billion in investment and will house roughly 750 corporate, research, and engineering employees who already work in the area.
Procter & Gamble’s Gillette explored several options for its future offices, including leasing space elsewhere or remaining on its current 31-acre South Boston campus, which is in the early stages of being redeveloped. Ultimately, the company decided to move forward with constructing a new building at 232 A Street — a site with existing approvals and sold in 2021 to Breakthrough Properties, a joint venture between Tishman Speyer and Bellco Capital.
Gillette has been part of the neighborhood for well over a century, and the new headquarters signals that the razor giant plans to remain a major presence in the area — just with a new address nearby.
For Southie residents, it means a familiar name on the skyline isn’t disappearing anytime soon, it’s simply starting a new chapter right here in the neighborhood.
