Did Tom Brady prevent Patriots from acquiring Maxx Crosby? One report suggests possibility.
The Patriots will sign edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pellissero.
The deal is reportedly worth up to $39.5 million over three years.
Jones, 29, comes to the Patriots from Baltimore where he spent the second half of last season after being acquired from the Titans in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
He posted a career-high seven sacks last season, with 43 total tackles.
Jones was a third-round pick in 2019. The Patriots will be his fifth team in eight years. He spent four of those with the Broncos, followed by short stints in Seattle, Tennessee, and Baltimore.
He has 37.5 career sacks, which averages out to 5.36 per year. He had 24 QB hits last season. Harold Landry led the Patriots in 2025 with 19.
Landry had a strong start last season, but his production dropped off in the second half while he was hampered with a knee injury. The Patriots have him under contract through 2027. Anfernee Jennings and Elijah Ponder are also under contract.
K’Lavon Chaisson had a breakout year for the Patriots at edge rusher last season. He’s a free-agent. Chaisson posted 7.5 sacks, 18 QB hits, and a pair of forced fumbles.
The pass-rush, as a whole, was a bit of an issue in 2025. The Patriots finished 26th in sacks [35] last season. They were also 26th in pressures [121].
Jones brings a veteran presence and solid size [6-foot-3, 281 pounds] to the edge for the Patriots. He primarily plays outside, but has shown ability to play inside. He led the Ravens in QB hits and pressure rate during his time with them.
