Northern Adelaide families will soon be able to access critical health services closer to home with construction beginning on a new Family Health and Wellbeing Hub in Elizabeth Vale.
The hub will be a four-storey purpose-built facility that will provide space for a number of organisations committed to child development, family health and capacity-building for parents.
Led by the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation, the project is a community partnership supported by the City of Playford, Flinders University, and the South Australian Government.
The funding commitment from the Albanese Labor Government is enabling the Foundation and its collaborators to create a welcoming space dedicated to improving family health and wellbeing.
Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said “The Albanese Government’s urban Precincts and Partnerships Program is designed to grow local economies and ensure that our urban areas are supporting the people who live there.
“Being a new parent can be really tough, and it’s a time in life when many families need additional support. This new hub will provide services and assurance to local Northern Adelaide families when they need it most.”
The facility will offer a wide range of services, with a focus on early child development, pregnancy and parenting support, and programs designed to strengthen community connections.
It will also include student supported health services, facilities for trialling new models of care, and sleep rooms to support parents of babies in Lyell McEwin Hospital’s Special Care Nursery.
Member for Spence Matt Burnell said bringing a child into the world is one of the most joyful moments of a families life, but it can be overwhelming, especially for first-time parents.
“This Hub will give local families practical, wrap-around support close to home, so they know they are not navigating those early months alone,” he said.
“This project builds on the Albanese Labor Government’s strong investment in health services across the North, strengthening the support available to families at every stage.”
CEO of Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation Verity Gobbett said they are incredibly grateful to the Australian Government for its contribution to the project.
“This milestone is a testament to the commitment of everyone involved and the belief in the power of partnership and collaboration.
“The Hub has the potential to make a profound difference to a region experiencing entrenched disadvantage.
“We are excited to be one step closer to bringing to life our vision of a vibrant, village based approach to health and wellbeing to the community.”
Construction has begun, and the facility is expected to open in mid-2027.
