Australia hand debut to 19-year-old fast bowler Lucy Hamilton in day-night Test against India in Perth

Teenage pace sensation Lucy Hamilton will make her Test debut in Australia’s day-night clash with India at the WACA Ground.

Ahead of Alyssa Healy’s final international appearance, the 19-year-old from Bundaberg in regional Queensland has been presented her baggy green by Beth Mooney.

Healy won the toss and elected to bowl on a pitch bearing something of a green tinge, meaning the left-armer will likely have an early opportunity with the ball.

Hamilton is one of only two frontline fast-bowlers in Australia’s selected side alongside Darcie Brown, who bagged seven wickets in Australia’s most recent Test at the venue in 2024.

All-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Tahlia McGrath will also be able to provide seam support, while the bowling attack also includes WA leg-spinner Alana King and orthodox counterpart Ash Gardner.

Ellyse Perry has overcome a quad injury which forced her to miss the ODI series to take her place in the side, but will play as a specialist batter and is carded to come in at No.3.

Australia own an 8-4 lead in the multi-format series over the side who defeated them in last year’s Women’s World Cup final and would be able to seal victory with either a win or a draw.

A tribute to Healy which reads ‘Thanks Midge’ and includes a silhouette of her celebrating a century has been painted on the grass in front of Australia’s dressing room.

The veteran will not take on her trademark roles at the top of the order and with the wicketkeeping gloves, instead continuing her recent Test role in the middle order at No.4 with Mooney preferred behind the stumps.

India have called upon four debutants, with fast bowlers Kashvee Gautam, Sayali Satghare and Kranti Gaud all to play their first Test alongside batter Pratika Rawal.

Australia team: Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy (captain), Annabel Sutherland, Beth Mooney (wicketkeeper), Ash Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Alana King, Lucy Hamilton, Darcie Brown

India team: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Deepti Sharma, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Sayali Satghare, Kranti Gaud
