Former Manchester United Paul Scholes legend has taken aim at manager Michael Carrick, saying the side have “been cr–” in the last four games.
The post on Instagram, which is no longer visible, came after Man United’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday.
The defeat was Carrick’s first in his two spells as manager.
“Michael has definitely got something special about him, [because] United have been crap last four games… night,” Scholes posted.
His post also included a heart alongside the name of Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.
Scholes had previously claimed on The Overlap podcast that Tonali was a better midfielder tha nDeclan Rice. “I think he’s better than Rice,” he had previously said. “I really like Rice, don’t get me wrong, I think he’s got everything.”
Carrick had started his second stint as United manager with wins over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham before a draw at West Ham United.
They added two more wins, albeit with underwhelming performances, Everton and Crystal Palace before losing to Newcastle.
“Disappointed obviously,” Carrick said after the defeat at St James’ Park.

“Bitterly disappointed. It hurts that tonight. We definitely came here in good shape, looking to get something from the game, if not win the game and we’re disappointed with the way it panned out.
“We can be an awful lot better. We’ve put ourselves in a good position, a decent position with the performances and the results that we’ve had, so tonight hurts.”
United are third in the Premier league table, level on points with Aston Villa in fourth.
