A Tokyo-based education company has announced the nationwide launch of what it describes as Japan’s first VTuber online cram school staffed entirely by virtual instructors. The company states that using VTubers is intended not as entertainment but as a way to create a learning environment that may feel more accessible to some students.
Luminari Inc., which operates an in-person tutoring school, began offering the new service “Wish High” on March 1, 2026. The company is headquartered in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, and is led by CEO Yuya Nakamura.
Wish High is designed primarily for high school students, delivering classes online through instructors who appear and teach as VTubers. The company says the platform aims to address disparities in access to education caused by geographic location, financial constraints, school absenteeism, and other barriers.
To mark the official launch, several instructors appeared in commemorative livestreams on the school’s official YouTube channel on February 19 and February 25, 2026.
Teachers specializing in geography, Japanese history, and chemistry are expected to participate in the first session, while instructors covering world history, classical Japanese, and English will join the second event.
According to the company, Wish High combines the flexibility of online learning with what it describes as the approachability and expressive strengths of VTuber-led instruction. Classes will cover core high school subjects, including mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, classical Japanese, history, and geography.
While primarily aimed at high school students, the platform will also be open to middle school students, university students, and adult learners seeking to review or relearn academic subjects.
