TVK chief Vijay addresses party functionaries near Sengipatti in Thanjavur on Wednesday

In a veiled attack on the Dravidian majors, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and actor Vijay on Wednesday (February 4, 2026) accused the DMK and AIADMK of having a secret understanding to capture power alternately and of conspiring to thwart him from coming to power.
“Politics is not about ‘collection’; it requires working for the people. We have come into politics to serve the people. Our enemies know this well. That is why there are so many conspiracies around us. Prominent among them is a deal between them [the DMK and AIADMK ] to prevent anybody else from coming to power,” Mr. Vijay said, addressing a party functionaries’ meet at Sengipatti near Thanjavur.
Without explicitly naming the two parties, Mr. Vijay said that they had a deal to ensure that one of them remained in power so as “to keep cheating the people,” though outwardly, they seemed to be at odds with one another. “They have realised their plan will not work due to my entry into politics. So, one of them is trying to impose ‘SOP after SOP’ (standard operating procedure, an apparent reference to the conditions imposed on his political meetings), while the other is indulging in mudslinging him,” Mr. Vijay alleged.
“Allegations after allegations have been made, starting from Karur [stampede] to the release of [the film] Jananayakan. At least in the Jananayakan release issue, many had voiced their support – including Chief Minister [M.K.] Stalin, though in a non-committal way. But whatever it is, I thank him and the others for that,” he said.
Mr. Vijay, however, came down heavily on the DMK government, terming it “a fraudulent government” and not a model one, as claimed by the party. Citing some of the 2021 poll promises of the DMK, he accused the party of failing to implement them. It had even promised to abolish NEET, knowing well that it would not be able to fufil it, he charged.
“Claims such as the ‘DMK is the protector of Tamil Nadu and DMK is the saviour of minorities’ would not work this time. For even children have now started saying: ‘Om Sakthi, Parasakthi, DMK is a theeyasakthi’ [evil force],” he claimed.
The Assembly election was not a mere election but an “emotion” for him and the people of Tamil Nadu. Mr. Stalin’s claims that he would return to power – a task that could not be achieved even by his father and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi – would never come true, Mr. Vijay said.
He further accused the DMK of failing to stand by the farmers of the State and instead supporting the sand mafia, which he alleged was looting the State’s natural resources. Seeking to deflect criticism over his silence on issues such as the Cauvery and Mullaperiyar, he said he was keeping abreast of the issues and the possible solutions. “The issues have to be understood by talking to the right persons, and appropriate solutions should be implemented properly. Issues faced by the farmers will be addressed once the TVK comes to power,” he said.
The TVK, if voted to power, would not implement any project against the wishes of farmers, even if there was pressure from the Union government, he said.
‘Not mere poll promises’
Elaborating on his “vision,” which he said was not mere poll promises, Mr. Vijay promised a waiver of cooperative crop loans for farmers with landholdings of up to five acres and said up to a 50% waiver would be considered for those with more than five acres. The educational expenses of the wards of farmers owning up to two acres of land and of landless labourers would be borne by the government. He also assured that the safety of fishermen would be ensured.
