Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi gave positive indications about taking up the post of Prime Minister, stating that he was ready to shoulder the responsibility “for the sake of the country.”

Mr. Gandhi made the remarks at the valedictory session of the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents’ training camp held in Hyderabad. The comments came in response to an appeal made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who urged him to take on the mantle of national leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Reddy said, “For the sake of this nation, Rahul Gandhi must become the Prime Minister.” He emphasised that Rahul Gandhi does not harbour any personal ambition for the post, noting that his great grandfather, grandmother and father had all served as Prime Ministers, and therefore the position was not a matter of desire but of duty.

“Rahul Gandhi is a grounded leader. But given the present situation in the country, every one of us must work to see him become Prime Minister,” the Chief Minister said. He clarified that he was appealing not as Chief Minister, but as a Congress worker. He further stated that the Prime Minister’s post would not be an ornament for Rahul Gandhi, but a responsibility.

Sources said, responding to the Chief Minister’s appeal, Mr. Rahul Gandhi smiled and nodded, indicating his readiness to take up the challenge. He reportedly remarked that he was prepared for the political battle against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and willing to accept the responsibility.
