The Ministry of Civil Aviation, in its statement, said that 410 flights were cancelled on Saturday after armed hostilities broke out between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The situation is going to prevail on Sunday as well, as the Ministry has claimed that 444 are likely to be cancelled.
Air India, one of India’s premier airliners, cancelled 50 international flights on Sunday. It shared a list on X, showing some of the names of the flights that are scheduled to depart on Sunday. Sharing its advisory on X, the flyer wrote, “Close monitoring and careful assessment of the evolving situation in the Middle East have necessitated further curtailment of our scheduled operations, with the safety and security of our customers and crew remaining our highest priority.”
Air India’s cancelled flights’ list for Sunday
Along with Air India, IndiGo also shared a travel advisory on X, citing the cancellation of flights on Sunday. The airlines mentioned, “In view of the prevailing situation, the temporary suspension of select international flights that use Middle East airspace has been extended until 2nd March 2026, 2359 hrs IST.”
Flight operations in the entire Middle East suffered a major hit on Saturday, following the armed escalation between the three nations. Several Indian carriers, like Air India and IndiGo, announced the suspension of all of their flights to destinations across the Middle East. The announcement came from both airlines hours after an Air India flight en route from India to Tel Aviv was forced to turn back mid-journey following the closure of regional airspace.
AVIATION BODY ISSUED ADVISORY
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a safety advisory on Sunday, asking Indian flyers to refrain from operations in the selected airspaces that are affected by the Iran-Israel conflict. It also asked the operators to monitor all updated Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs) NOTAMs issued by the affected countries and national authorities.
“Recent military strikes conducted by the United States and Israel against targets within Iranian territory have led to a high-risk environment for civil aviation. In response to these strikes, Iran has announced retaliatory measures. The current situation presents the following critical hazards to civil flight operations,” the advisory noted.
The body also issued the same advisory yesterday after the conflict broke out between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
DISRUPTED FLIGHT OPERATIONS LEFT SEVERAL INDIANS STRANDED
The disrupted airline operations, coupled with the shutdown of Dubai Airport, following several missile strikes by Iran in several Middle Eastern regions, left several Indians stranded in airports. Indian shuttler PV Sindhu was one of them. The famous badminton star was en route to Birmingham for the All England Open, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, with Dubai serving as her connecting point. However, the escalating conflict in the region brought one of the world’s busiest travel hubs to a complete standstill, leaving thousands of passengers — including the two-time Olympic medallist — with no clear path forward.
Other than Sindhu, the Indian Senior Men’s National Basketball Team also got stuck in Doha, Qatar, following their match in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
DUBAI AIRPORT SUSTAINED DAMAGE
Dubai’s international airport, which handles more than 1,000 flights a day, sustained damage during an overnight Iranian retaliatory attack on sites across the Arab Gulf states. Following the attack, the airport authorities suspended all flights at Dubai International and at Al Maktoum International until further notice, urging passengers not to travel.
