Adelaide is set for a wet end to the weekend, with heavy showers and the risk of thunderstorms on Sunday before conditions gradually ease and sunshine returns later in the week.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a tropical low near the Northern Territory border is extending a trough across central and southeastern South Australia. The system will move southwards on Sunday before being pushed east by a cold front moving through the Bight on Monday. A high-pressure system is then expected to settle into the Bight, extending a stabilising ridge across the state from Tuesday.
Today, Adelaide is forecast to reach a top of 27 degrees, with showers and heavy falls possible. Between 5 and 30mm of rain could fall, with a 90 per cent chance of rain. Thunderstorms are possible, with heavy bursts that may lead to flash flooding. Conditions are expected to ease later this evening as showers contract to central and eastern districts. Winds will shift from northeasterly to south to southwesterly at 15 to 25 km/h during the afternoon. The UV Index is forecast to reach an extreme 11, with sun protection recommended between 9:40am and 5:20pm. Fire danger is rated moderate in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Tomorrow, skies will remain cloudy with a maximum of 25 degrees following a low of 18 degrees. There is only a slight chance of a shower, most likely in the early morning, and a low risk of a thunderstorm in the northern suburbs. Southerly winds will strengthen to 25 to 35 km/h, keeping temperatures below average.
By Tuesday, conditions begin to stabilise. A partly cloudy day is forecast with a maximum of 25 degrees and just a 5 per cent chance of rain. Southerly to southeasterly winds of 15 to 25 km/h will persist.
Midweek will see a return to more settled weather. Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a top of 28 degrees, followed by sunny conditions on Thursday with a maximum of 28 degrees. Temperatures will climb further into next weekend, reaching 30 degrees under mostly sunny skies on Friday and again on Saturday.
Statewide, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to contract eastwards on Monday, with isolated coastal showers lingering into Tuesday. Rainfall totals to the end of Wednesday are expected to reach 20 to 50mm across large parts of the state, increasing to 50 to 100mm in some areas, with isolated higher totals possible in the northeast.
A Flood Warning remains in place for the Inland Rivers of South Australia, with flooding occurring along Cooper Creek at Innamincka and elevated river levels along the Warburton River. Authorities say river levels at Cullyamurra Waterhole remain above the Innamincka causeway but are gradually falling. Residents are urged to avoid floodwaters, heed road closures and stay updated as conditions continue to evolve.
Happy Sunday, stay dry and stay safe!
