If January is about resetting for the year ahead, February is when momentum really kicks in. The new year routine has settled, the calendar is filling, and there’s plenty of reasons to get dressed again.
There’s a few things to get excited about at this time of year, sartorially speaking. Resort collections are still in rotation, fashion month is unfolding overseas, and our favourite designers start hinting at their new season collections. The result is a wardrobe that sits somewhere between the ease of the last month of summer, and the polish of the coming autumn.
I’ve found myself dipping into both ends of the spectrum this February. When the sun is shining, I’m slipping into my favourite bikini with a sheer layer over the top, and slinging a straw basket over my shoulder on route to the beach. Muggy office days have been defined by a great pair of trousers, ballet flats, and a simple tank. And when the air seems to hint at the shiver of autumn, skirts are balanced by oversized knits, and maybe a great jacket.
Accessories, too, do some of the heavy lifting. I’m more in love than ever with oversized sunglasses that cover my whole face (handy on a no makeup day). Jewellery that glints in the sun is another fun way to soak up the last of summer, and also adds a little something special on drearier days. Both go a long way to make even the most minimal outfit feel considered.
