South Boston, MA – A sure sign of spring in Boston returns this month as Sullivan’s Castle Island officially opens for its 75th season on Saturday, February 28th, welcoming back generations of loyal customers to the iconic South Boston landmark. Following this past week’s blizzard, the Sullivan’s team wants guests to know that opening day is still on — no matter the weather. A little snow has never stopped the start of a new season at Castle Island.
Since opening its doors in 1951, Sullivan’s Castle Island has been a cherished gathering place for the community, known for its classic American bites, waterfront view, and role in bringing people together year after year. For many Bostonians, the opening of “Sully’s” marks the unofficial start of spring – a tradition that continues for the 75th year in 2026.
Coming off a standout 2025 season following its James Beard America’s Classic Award, Sullivan’s enters its 75th year with gratitude and excitement. The team is thrilled to welcome guests back to Castle Island and continue serving the community that has supported the family business for generations.

The 2026 season will honor Sullivan’s history while continuing the traditions guests know and love. From familiar menu favorites to the nostalgia and community pride of Southie, this milestone year also coincides with America’s 250th anniversary, a significant moment for Boston. As a longtime landmark on Castle Island, Sullivan’s will open its 75th season as the Tall Ships return to Boston Harbor for Sail Boston®, welcoming visitors to the island throughout the summer.
Sullivan’s will be open at 10am on Saturday, February 28th, 2026.
