The incident aboard a boat at MacMillan Pier prompted a mass-casualty response.
First responders transported eight people to the hospital after they were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning on a boat in Provincetown, according to police.
The police said that on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 5:59 p.m., Provincetown Police and Fire Departments responded to MacMillian Pier for a report of an unresponsive person on a boat in the harbor.
When first responders arrived, officers entered the boat and found a second unresponsive person.
First responders removed both people and transported them to Cape Cod Hospital.
In total, first responders took eight people to Cape Cod Hospital for further evaluation. Due to their exposure, the first responders were also evaluated.
Police declared a mass casualty incident because the number of patients exceeded the number of available ambulances. It allowed the town to call on help from neighboring towns.
Due to the blizzard on Monday, many parts of Provincetown were still without power on Thursday.
