The official Twitter/X account and website for the upcoming Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You TV anime series announced the casting of voice actor Shinya Takahashi as Suzuki. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2026, with the animation production being handled by Asahi Production.

Takahashi joins a main voice cast that will star Takuya Sato as Sasaki and Seena Hoshiki as Yamada / Tamaya
Additionally, character visuals of the main characters were also unveiled.
The manga series began as a Twitter webcomic by Jinushi on March 9, 2022, before beginning serialization in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine on August 25, 2022. Eight tankobon volumes have been published in Japan as of January 2026.

Square Enix Manga & Books licensed the Smoking Behind the Supermarket manga for English print release, while Manga UP! Global releases it digitally on its service. The latter describes the main premise as:
Meet Sasaki, an overworked, middle-aged office worker. His days are marked only by the passing of more unrewarding corporate drudgery. Smoking helps take the edge off, but other than that, the only bright spot of his day is when he goes to the nearby supermarket and sees Yamada’s smiling face. So, one evening after yet another exhausting day, he heads to the supermarket to find he missed Yamada’s shift. Dejected, he decides to go find a smoking area but discovers there isn’t one to be found. Just as he’s about to leave, a girl in a biker jacket named Tayama asks him to join her at a secret smoking area!
