Unbeaten Mayweather to Face Pacquiao Again in Historic Sphere Boxing Event

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are set to meet again in a professional rematch this September at Sphere in Las Vegas. The fight will be streamed worldwide on Netflix, the fighters and promoters announced Monday.

The event will mark the first professional boxing match ever held at the Sphere. It will also be Mayweather’s first professional boxing fight in nearly three years of retirement.

Mayweather, who holds a 50-0 record with 27 knockouts, defeated Pacquiao in their 2015 bout, widely known as the “Fight of the Century.” In a statement, Mayweather said he expects the same outcome this time.

“I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,” Mayweather said.

Pacquiao enters the rematch with a 62-8-3 record and 39 knockouts. The Filipino star said he is confident he will hand Mayweather his first professional loss.

“I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him,” Pacquiao said.

Their first fight in 2015 generated 4.6 million pay-per-view purchases and $72 million in live gate revenue at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The upcoming rematch will be available to more than 325 million Netflix subscribers worldwide as the streaming platform continues expanding into live boxing events. Most recently, Netflix aired high-profile bouts, including Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, which the company reported drew 108 million live global viewers.

The September rematch is expected to draw global attention as two of boxing’s biggest names meet again in what will be a historic event for both the sport and the venue.
