Video: Dogs corner leopard at goat farm to save owners in Himachal – Himachal Pradesh News

A leopard attacked a goat farm in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district late at night, injuring the two owners and triggering panic in the area. A dramatic video of the incident has gone viral on social media, where the Gaddi dogs have confronted the leopard.

The leopard entered the farm premises in Satiwala near Nahan, during the night. A pack of Gaddi dogs deployed to guard the livestock immediately sprang into action and cornered the animal in one section of the farm, preventing it from escaping into open areas.

Gaddi dogs are a mastiff-type mountain dog breed indigenous to the Western Himalayas in India, specifically Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kashmir. These robust dogs are used by local shepherds for herding and protecting sheep and goats from predators like snow leopards

When the farm gate was opened in the morning, the leopard allegedly launched a sudden attack on two men, identified as Sangram and Neeraj.

The two men were injured in the leopard attack.

Amid the chaos, the Gaddi dogs bravely diverted the leopard’s attention and helped the two men escape from its grip. The farm owner sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

In an attempt to flee from the dogs, the leopard hid inside a narrow drainage culvert pipe nearby.

A team from the Forest Department reached the spot and successfully tranquilised the animal using a dart gun. Hundreds of villagers gathered at the scene during the rescue operation, making the situation sensitive.

Forest officials took the leopard after tranquillising it.

After being sedated, the leopard was brought to the Forest Range Office in Shambhuwala for preliminary medical care. Authorities are preparing to shift the animal to the rescue centre at Tuti Kandi in Shimla for further examination and rehabilitation.
