Senior BJP leader and former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy has written to the Telangana Director General of Police and the Union Home Secretary, flagging what he described as serious security concerns over the state government’s reported recognition of a controversial individual.
In his complaint, Reddy referred to journalist Abu Aimal, also known as Akram Ali Mohammed, and cited a recent Telangana High Court order that dismissed the latter’s writ petition challenging the revocation of his passport by the Regional Passport Authority on national security grounds. Reddy claimed that intelligence agencies had flagged the journalist’s activities and alleged that criminal cases had been registered against him.
The BJP leader questioned the Telangana government’s decision to reportedly confer a Lifetime Achievement Award in Digital Media on Abu Aimal despite what he termed pending security concerns. Taking aim at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he sought clarity on the basis for extending the recognition.
Reddy urged both the DGP and the Union Home Secretary to take note of the matter and conduct a detailed probe into the alleged security implications. He also sought information on the circumstances that led to the passport revocation and how the individual later received official honour.
Further, Reddy alleged that certain individuals were exerting undue influence within the Chief Minister’s Office and called for greater transparency from the Congress-led state government. He also linked the issue to broader concerns over governance and law and order in Telangana, including allegations of inaction in protecting Waqf properties from encroachments.
The Telangana government has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
