Adelaide weather forecast for Monday February 23rd and the days ahead

Adelaide will see a warm and settled week of weather, even as severe conditions threaten parts of regional South Australia under the influence of a slow-moving tropical low.

Today, Adelaide will see sunny conditions with a maximum of 29 degrees. Southeasterly winds of 15 to 25 km/h will persist through the day. Fire danger remains high in the Mount Lofty Ranges, while UV levels are forecast to reach an extreme index of 11.

Tomorrow will bring similar temperatures, with a minimum of 17 degrees and a maximum of 29 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Winds will be southeasterly at 15 to 20 km/h before becoming light overnight and strengthening again from the south to southeasterly during the morning. Dry and stable conditions are expected to continue across the metropolitan area.

On Wednesday, Adelaide will see mostly sunny skies and a top of 29 degrees following a cool start of 15 degrees. Southeasterly winds will freshen to 25 to 40 km/h, but rainfall is not expected in the city.

Temperatures will warm up on Thursday, climbing to 33 degrees under sunny skies after a minimum of 16 degrees. The warmer conditions will continue into Friday, with another maximum of 33 degrees forecast, although a shower or two may develop later in the day. Unsettled conditions are then expected to extend into the weekend, with showers possible on Saturday and Sunday as temperatures ease slightly to around 30 degrees to 31 degrees.

Conditions across the state are far more volatile this week. A tropical low near the Northern Territory border is extending a trough across the northeast of South Australia and is forecast to drift slowly south towards the state’s northeast during the week.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of widespread showers, thunderstorms and areas of rain across the North East Pastoral district and adjacent parts of the Flinders, Riverland and North West Pastoral districts. Thunderstorms may become severe, bringing the risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

Cumulative rainfall totals to the end of Thursday are expected to reach 60 to 120 mm across parts of the North East Pastoral district, with isolated totals between 120 and 200 mm possible in areas repeatedly impacted by severe storms. Lower totals of 5 to 15 mm are forecast across the northern agricultural area, with lighter falls further south and west.

Marine wind warnings are also in place for Tuesday for the Upper West Coast, Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent.

Happy Monday, enjoy the week!
