NFL world heartbroken as wide receiver Rondale Moore found dead aged 25

NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore, who played most recently for the Minnesota Vikings, was found dead on Saturday night in Indiana, authorities said. He was 25.

Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin did not share additional details on the circumstances of Moore’s death but said there was no threat to the public and an autopsy would be conducted on Sunday.

Multiple US reports say Moore was found with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Moore, a receiver and return specialist drafted in the second round out of Purdue University, spent his first three years in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals.

In 2024 he dislocated his right knee during training camp with the Atlanta Falcons, and he never played for them.

Moore attempted to make a comeback with Minnesota in 2025 but was injured while returning a punt in the first pre-season game.

Former teammates mourned the loss on social media, with Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown saying the news of Moore’s death “hurt even more” after chatting to him just hours earlier.

“You could have called me dawg,” Brown wrote. “Get some peace.”

JJ Watt wrote: “Can’t even begin to fathom or process this. There’s just no way. Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in Peace Rondale.”

Raheem Mostert said he was “truly heartbroken right now”.

“Rest easy lil bro.. Rondale you were special,” Mostert said.

“Listen I don’t care who you are, if you need to talk to someone please reach out.. this is me checking in on any and everyone.”

The NFL Players’ Association said it was “devastated by the sudden and tragic passing”.

“In moments like this we are reminded of how much our players carry, on and off the field,” the NFLPA said.

“To our members: please know that support is always within reach. Check on your teammates and prioritise your mental health.

“If you or someone you know is struggling, we encourage you to take advantage of the many confidential resources and services available to you through the NFLPA.”

Zach Allen said: “Rest in Peace Rondale. It was an honour to be your teammate. Always check on your people. You just never know.”

Russell Wilson said: “RIP Rondale Moore. Heartbroken for your family, friends and teammates.”

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell issued a statement via the franchise.

“I am devastated by the news of Rondale’s death. While Rondale had been a member of the Vikings for a short time, he was someone we came to know well and care about deeply,” he said.

“He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots.

“As a player, he was disciplined, dedicated and resilient despite facing adversity multiple times as injuries sidelined him throughout his career.

“We are all heartbroken by the fact he won’t continue to live out his NFL dream and we won’t all have a chance to watch him flourish. My prayers are with Rondale’s family, friends, teammates and coaches as we all deal with this tragic news.”

University of Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm, who coached Moore at Purdue, called him an “ultimate competitor who wouldn’t back down” from a challenge.

“We all loved Rondale; we loved his smile and his competitive edge that always wanted to please everyone he came in contact with,” Brohm said in a statement.
