Lynne McGranger, Matt Nable among stars joining Nine’s shark reality series

A Gold Logie winner, an Olympic champion and a reality TV stalwart are all about to test their courage in the open ocean as Nine locks in the star studded cast for its high stakes new series SHARK!.

First revealed at Nine’s upfronts last year, the ambitious commission now takes shape with a six celebrity lineup led by beloved Home and Away star Lynne McGranger alongside previously announced Ariarne Titmus and Scott Cam, plus Tammy Hembrow, Sam Thaiday and Matt Nable.

Filmed in the Bahamas, and understood to be based in Bimini, the same location used for the British version, the series will see participants confront some of the ocean’s most feared predators, including bull sharks, tiger sharks and hammerheads.

Rather than a simple wildlife encounter, the format escalates through increasingly intense challenges, from cage dives to open water swims with minimal protection.

Australian shark attack survivor and former Navy clearance diver Paul de Gelder will guide the celebrities through the experience, alongside shark expert and conservationist Annie Guttridge.

He said the series aims to reshape public perception while acknowledging genuine fear of the animals.

“Fear is understandable, but sharks aren’t villains. They can be dangerous — yes — but they are also beautiful, vital to the health of our oceans, and worthy of respect rather than fear alone.”

By the end of the journey, each participant is expected to leave with a radically different perspective on the creatures they once feared, assuming they can push through the psychological and physical demands of the experience.

SHARK! is based on the UK format Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, produced by Plimsoll, part of ITV Studios, which is also producing the Australian version for Nine; the original premiered on ITV last July but was cancelled shortly after Nine announced its local adaptation.

No airdate has been announced yet for SHARK!, but the network has teased the new reality series is coming soon to Channel 9 and 9Now.
