In 2026, Thailand will keep its visa policies largely intact while tightening monitoring and modernizing entry procedures to better manage tourism and long-term stays.
The government has confirmed that the 60-day visa exemption for nationals of 93 countries will continue, allowing travelers to extend their stay by an additional 30 days.
However, authorities are reviewing the system after reports of misuse, including repeated back-to-back entries and informal employment under tourist status.
Visa-on-arrival facilities remain available for travelers from 31 countries, while officials are considering adding more nations in a future expansion.
Thailand is also promoting longer stays through the Destination Thailand Visa aimed at remote workers, along with updated student visa rules allowing certain foreign students to study and work under specific conditions.
Meanwhile, the country has simplified visa categories and expanded its online e-Visa system, enabling travelers in most countries to apply digitally.
A major new requirement is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, now mandatory for all visitors, who must submit travel details online within 72 hours before arrival.
Authorities are also reviewing long-stay visas, including those for retirees, as part of broader efforts to balance tourism growth with immigration control.
For travelers, entry rules remain relatively accessible, but officials warn that stricter enforcement could follow if visa privileges continue to be misused.
