Madhuri Dixit Nene’s painterly ensemble proves great tailoring can multitask

When Madhuri Dixit Nene’s latest look proves that some pieces can be directional and adaptable. Sukriti Grover styled a look that can transition seamlessly across various events with just a shift in accessories. While the veteran actor wore drop earrings by Bblingg, swap them for a pearl choker and the look instantly takes on a more occasion-ready mood.

The actor wore the Raina Set from Nouria’s latest outing, ‘Ember’. Designer Dipti Advait behind the label shares, “This collection is a new take on structure and fluidity, grounded in sharp cuts, easy layering and defined by bold prints. These are versatile staples perfect to create a capsule wardrobe that can go from a Sunday brunch to a pool party at a destination wedding.” That philosophy is evident in the interplay of tailored shirting and the fluid draping of the ensemble.

At first glance, the set reads as a conventional coordinated shirt and skirt combination. Look closer and the construction reveals its innovation. “The tie-up drape skirt reimagines the classic sarong through a contemporary lens. The skirt’s versatile design allows it to be tied up in multiple ways, ensuring a flattering look for all body types,” says Advait.

What catches your eye the most is its painterly print. “Sweeping brushstroke forms in crimson, deep terracotta and burnt sienna cut across an ivory cotton satin base, lending the look an artful edge. The composition channels the raw energy of Abstract Expressionism and yet remains wearable. The idea was to imagine strokes that are gestural and spontaneous, as though the cotton satin fabric itself was laid flat and painted by hand in a single, fluid motion,” the designer shares.

The print did not originate digitally. “It was first born on paper, drawn entirely by hand before being translated onto fabric. Each brushstroke you see is a deliberate mark made by a human hand, later rendered onto the cloth to preserve every raw, imperfect edge of the original artwork.”
