The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) 2026 season is jam-packed with incredible performances to celebrate their 90th year. An Evening on Broadway at Her Majesty’s Theatre on the 20th and 21st of February will see the orchestra celebrate much loved classics from Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story and more.
Under the baton of Jessica Gethin, the ASO will be joined by Amy Manford and Josh Piterman, both acclaimed for their roles in The Phantom of the Opera in London’s West End.
Josh Piterman spoke to Glam Adelaide about An Evening on Broadway, performing in general, and where his love of the theatre grew from.
“I wrote a book that came out last year that really delved into how it all started for me. It pretty much grew from not being seen, noticed, accepted, validated, or loved in the ways I needed to be. I had a very PG relationship with Michael Jackson. As a 16-year-old, I learnt how to moonwalk. I moonwalked in the school cafeteria one day and bumped into the director of the school musicals, who asked me if I would like to audition for Fame? I did and I just fell in love with it. I think it was the creative side of things. I haven’t ever really looked back.”
Josh Piterman
Josh, a singer, actor, podcaster and speaker, was the first Australian to play both the roles of Jean Valjean in Les MisérablesandThe Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera on London’s West End.
We asked Josh what it is about musical theatre that he loves.
“I think you’re sort of adding an unnecessary self-pressure to the equation if you’re carrying all that weight of external expectation that’s probably not even there. So carrying all of that is not something I worry about, it’s more about what can we create collectively with myself, the cast, the director, the music director, and the music supervisor. That’s what I love about a rehearsal room and the ongoing shows, it’s just every night or day that you get out there, it’s a creation.”
This Friday and Saturday nights, the 20th and 21st of February, the ASO, Josh and Amy Manford will perform an extraordinary celebration of musical theatre.
“This show is full of the juiciest cuts of Broadway moments and songs. There’s West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Sunset Boulevard, Annie Get Your Gun, Cats, Les Mis, Carousel, King and I, and even a bit of Stephen Sondheim. I get to sing this beautiful moment from Into the Woods, which is a really stripped-back arrangement. There’s some Guys and Dolls and plenty of Phantom of the Opera. It’s just a wholesome night of incredible music with the brilliant Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.”
“Amy and I cannot wait to present this concert with the sheer power and beauty of the ASO to Adelaide audiences.”
Their exceptional voices will elevate these adored classics and create an electric atmosphere that promises to leave you spellbound.
