A 19-year-old woman allegedly ran over a young man with a Thar SUV in Vadodara late night, killing him on the spot, police said.
The accident occurred around 1 am when the teenager, who was returning from a wedding, was driving the Thar. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, she hit an Activa scooter being ridden by Abhishek More. The impact dragged the scooter for a considerable distance. Bystanders rushed to the spot after seeing the body lying on the road.
Police detained three women who were inside the Thar at the time of the accident. Officials identified them as Rushika, Tanisha and Vismayi. Police said Rushika, 19, was driving the vehicle. The three sisters were on their way home after attending a wedding and were heading to drop Vismayi at her house in the same locality when the accident took place.
Eyewitnesses and the victim’s family alleged that the driver was speeding and under the influence of alcohol. Police have launched an investigation based on CCTV footage and medical reports. After a preliminary probe, officials shared certain details of the incident with the media.
Police also said that two days before the fatal crash, the same woman had allegedly damaged a sugarcane juice machine belonging to a family from Maharashtra in the same area.
The victim, Abhishek More, had recently started working as a food delivery executive, and the day of the accident was his first day on the job. He suffered severe injuries after the Thar hit his scooter and died at the scene.
Based on the father’s complaint, police arrested the 19-year-old woman and continued further investigation into the case.
