Adelaide is set for some hot summer weather this weekend, with temperatures climbing into the mid-to-high 30s over the coming days.
For the remainder of Friday, the city will enjoy sunny conditions with a top of 28 degrees. Fresh southeasterly winds, reaching 25 to 40 km/h, will persist through the afternoon. UV levels remain extreme despite the milder temperature, with a forecast index of 12. Authorities continue to advise residents to take appropriate sun protection measures. Fire danger is rated high in the Mount Lofty Ranges.
The heat will intensify over the weekend, with tomorrow forecast to reach 32 degrees under clear skies, with southeasterly winds and afternoon sea breezes providing limited relief. Conditions will remain dry across metropolitan areas.
On Sunday, temperatures will reach 36 degrees following a warm overnight minimum of 19 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and light easterly to southeasterly winds. The hot conditions are expected to peak on Monday, when Adelaide is forecast to reach 37 degrees after a minimum of 25 degrees, marking one of the hottest days in the current outlook period.
The Bureau of Meteorology attributes the rising temperatures to a high-pressure system extending a ridge across South Australia, maintaining stable and dry conditions through the weekend. A trough moving into the far west of the state on Monday may introduce slight instability into the broader weather pattern early next week.
A slight change is forecast for Tuesday, with temperatures easing marginally to 34 degrees and a shower or two possible. While rainfall totals are expected to be minimal, increased cloud cover may bring minor relief from the heat later in the day.
A more noticeable cool-down is anticipated on Wednesday, when the maximum is forecast to drop to 27 degrees with cloud clearing during the day. Conditions will remain relatively mild into Thursday, with a top of 31 degrees expected under clearing skies.
Across the wider state, conditions will remain mostly dry through the weekend, although strong wind warnings are in place for several coastal waters, including Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent and parts of the South Central Coast. Marine authorities are advising caution for boaters in affected areas.
Rainfall totals across the state are expected to remain low through to Monday, generally less than 3 mm across the Eyre Peninsula and pastoral districts.
Happy Friday, stay cool!
