Netflix has dropped a near-three-minute trailer for One Piece: Into The Grand Line, the second season of its live-action One Piece adaptation. Expect to see dinosaurs, Miss All Sunday, Chopper, and a whole lot more.
One Piece: Into The Grand Line will begin its voyage on March 10. Netflix’s logline for the new season reads:
Netflix’s epic high-seas pirate adventure, ONE PIECE, returns for Season 2—unleashing fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.
The show is based on the Shueisha-published manga by Eiichiro Oda, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 and will release its 114th volume in Japan on March 4, 2025. VIZ Media describes the manga as such:
As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer “Red-Haired” Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber…at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure…one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary “One Piece,” said to be the greatest treasure in the world…
The first season of the live-action One Piece show debuted in August 2023. Season 2 has Matt Owens and Joe Tracz (Percy Jackson and the Olympians and A Series of Unfortunate Events co-writer) as showrunners. Steven Maeda was co-showrunner with Owens for the previous season and remained on Season 2 as an executive producer. Ian Stokes will join as showrunner for Season 3, while Owens is exiting.
The One Piece manga has inspired a 1997 Production I.G-produced OVA, a still-ongoing Toei Animation-produced TV anime that began in 1999, and a series of anime movies. July 5 will see the premiere of One Piece Heroines, a one-episode anime based on the ONE PIECE novel HEROINES spin-off novels.
The franchise also includes spin-offs and video games.
