India’s cricketing talent shines: PM congratulates U-19 World Cup winner

India’s Under-19 cricket team drew praise from political leaders after winning the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailing the young side’s performance and its impact on aspiring sportspersons.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “India’s cricketing talent shines! Proud of our U-19 team for bringing home the World Cup. The team has played very well through the tournament, showcasing exceptional skill. This win will inspire several young sportspersons too. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours.”

India were crowned world champions in men’s Under-19 cricket for a sixth time after turning the final into a spectacle of overwhelming authority, dismantling England by 100 runs at the Harare Sports Club on Friday, February 6. Powered by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s breathtaking 175, the Ayush Mhatre-led side first piled up a towering 411 for 9 before bowling England out for 311 to seal one of the most emphatic title triumphs in the tournament’s history.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also congratulated the team for what he called a phenomenal campaign. “Congratulations to our Under-19 men’s team on the phenomenal World Cup victory! Your composure, fearlessness and determination is what defines the Gen Z of India, today. This sixth U-19 World Cup title is a proud statement of Indian cricket’s future. Well played, champions,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also lauded the achievement, calling the young players champions. “Congratulations to our young champs as Team India lifts ICC Men’s U19 World Cup. Your blazing performance, setting the crowning record of winning the cup for the sixth time, thrilled young players with joy, enthusiasm, and motivation. The nation celebrates your victory,” he said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin congratulated the team, calling the triumph a reflection of talent and temperament. “Congratulations to our Team India on lifting the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup and giving the nation yet another proud moment, a true triumph of talent and temperament,” he said.

Stalin specifically lauded Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s contribution in the final, adding, “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s breathtaking innings in the final and his extraordinary tournament will be remembered for years to come.”

AAP convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the win underlined the strength of India’s cricketing future. “By winning the ICC U-19 World Cup, India’s youth have once again proved that the country’s future in cricket is in strong hands. Congratulations to the entire team that created history by defeating England in the final. You have made millions of Indians proud,” he said.

The triumph adds to India’s previous titles in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022, underlining their dominance in the tournament’s history.
