Blair Waldorf, patron saint of headbands and social ambition, is officially staging her comeback.
More than two decades after Gossip Girl first chronicled Manhattan’s gilded teen elite, Deadline has exclusively announced that author Cecily von Ziegesar is returning to her most iconic creation with a standalone sequel novel titled Blair. And yes – she’s older, presumably wiser, and once again aiming for the top.
When will it be released?
The book is slated for a tentative Summer 2027 release.
What is it about?
It will follow Blair in her forties as she heads back to New York City, ready to reclaim status on an Upper East Side that has almost certainly changed while keeping its appetite for intrigue intact. Details about the plot remain closely guarded, but the premise alone feels rich with possibility: What happens when the Queen B grows up, leaves town, and decides she wants her crown back?
What else do we know?
Publishing rights were snapped up in a highly competitive deal by Grand Central Publishing in the U.S. and Orion Fiction in the U.K., with Alloy Entertainment– longtime stewards of the franchise – developing the project alongside von Ziegesar.
Will there be a TV adaptation?
Alloy is also keeping film and television rights, which practically invites speculation about whether Blair’s new chapter could eventually migrate from page to screen. And given the time jump, it only feels fitting that Miss Leighton Meester herself should step back into the role. As we know, not everyone can be Blair Waldorf.
