“Hey, how ya doin’” Grammy-Award winners DE LA SOUL and Pirate Life have a monumental message for you.
After celebrating a milestone one-decade in the industry last year, the multi-award-winning brewery is cranking it up to ELEVEN for their eleventh birthday. With that in mind, the beer and live music enthusiasts better make sure they (hip)hop to the Port Adelaide location on the 28th of February for “One whole day to play”.
Headlining the event is alternative hip hop evolutionists De La Soul, who will be showcasing tracks from their latest critically acclaimed studio album Cabin In The Sky, as well as many hits from their celebrated discography. The New Yorkers have not performed in Adelaide since their appearance at WOMAD festival in 2016, a considerably long time between beats and drinks.
Joining them is Tasmania’s Miss Kaninna, the now Naarm-based ARIA-nominated (the first Aboriginal woman to achieve this selection) singer, songwriter and rapper will deliver her arresting mix of hip-hop, R&B and soul above enchantingly. Perth’s Drapht is also on board presenting his infectious rhymes, then Melbourne’s The Bamboos will funk up the party prestigiously.
These New South Whales, The Bennies and Mannequin Death Squad are bound to invigorate the punk rock spirit at the festival, and on top of that, local dance jazz act TONIX and folk country punker Slim Krusty will charm the spectators into golden (ale) bliss. Plus, there are many more musicians to jig and drink along to.
Sitting in the heart of Port Adelaide – in a converted shed that is currently home to a 5000-litre brew kit and a 20-metre bar – the venue will come alive with a truly sensory experience set to unite beer lovers and musos, with more action, sound and suds than ever before.
Starting at 11am on February 28 and pumping until the clock strikes midnight, you can anticipate high-energy performers and local talent with feel-good vibes, complete with limited-release beers, interactive installations, cult food trucks, and numerous other cultural aspects of the Pirate Life brewery that always enhance the experience.
“We wanted to celebrate a diverse blend of Aussie artists this year, and this lineup does just that,” says Pirate Life’s Partnerships and Event Manager Oran Macartney-Dunne.
“It’s an awesome mix of hip hop, punk, soul, reggae, and experimental electronic – a taste that leans toward eclectic, socially conscious, and high-energy underground sounds.”
The birthday party also comes with the great unveiling of a brand-new bespoke piece of large-scale artwork in the dispatch yard, the result of several months of blood, sweat and tears by a talented local artist.
“Our vision for the birthday is to bring people together in a celebration of all the things we love as a brand,” says Oran.
The ultimate farewell to summer for Pirate punters (with plenty of room on the scene for first-timers to the brewery), there’s nowhere else you’d rather be on February 28.
