Sreedharan’s Ponnani office meant to mislead public: Govindan

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary M.V. Govindan on Tuesday alleged that E. Sreedharan’s move to open an office in Ponnani was aimed at misleading the public and said there was little chance of the Centre approving his programme as the Union Railway Minister had remained silent on the issue.

Addressing the media at Pazhayangadi during the party’s Vikasana Munnetta Jatha, Mr. Govindan said no one should expect Central approval for Mr. Sreedharan’s initiative in the absence of any official assurance from the Railway Ministry.

Referring to the controversy surrounding the Dhanaraj martyr’s fund, he said the party had no intention of releasing accounts ahead of the publication of V. Kunhikrishnan’s book. The CPI(M) would not glorify Mr. Kunhikrishnan, who had been expelled from the party, but would place all relevant details related to the fund before the public.

He asserted that the party maintained proper accounts and that all figures had already been presented within the organisation and would be disclosed publicly.

Mr. Govindan dismissed the need to examine Mr. Kunhikrishnan’s claims, stating that writing baseless allegations in a book could invite legal action.

On the ongoing SIT investigation in the Sabarimala gold theft case, Mr. Govindan said with the arrest of the Tantri, the probe was now moving towards the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. He termed the Leader of the Opposition’s remarks about the SIT investigation “utterly baseless.”
