As Gujarat moves towards finalising its electoral rolls, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has resulted in 6.88 lakh applications for the addition of names and 9.88 lakh requests for deletion, election officials said on Thursday (January 29, 2026).
The draft electoral rolls were published on December 19 after the completion of the enumeration phase of the SIR, according to a statement issued by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Gujarat. Voters have been allowed to seek inclusion or deletion of names by submitting the prescribed forms.
As of January 28, election authorities received 6.88 lakh Forms 6 and 6A for inclusion of names, while 9.88 lakh Form 7 applications were submitted for deletion from the rolls, the statement said.
Officials said the final decision on additions and deletions will be taken after verification of the applications and supporting documents.
The SIR exercise has led to a significant pruning of the voter list in the State. A total of 73.73 lakh voters were removed during the revision, reducing the number of registered voters in the draft rolls to 4.34 crore from 5.08 crore earlier.
Of the 73,73,327 voters removed, 18,07,278 were found to be deceased, 9,69,662 were absent, 40,25,553 had migrated out of Gujarat, and 3,81,470 were registered at more than one location. In addition, 1,89,364 voters were deleted for other reasons, officials said.
