Adelaide weather forecast for Saturday January 24th and the days ahead

Adelaide is bracing for an extended run of extreme summer weather, with scorching temperatures, severe to extreme heatwave conditions and dangerous fire weather firmly in place as the city moves through the weekend and into next week.

Today will remain extremely hot, with temperatures climbing to a sweltering 43 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Strong north to northeasterly winds will gust through the morning before shifting later in the day, increasing fire risk. The Mount Lofty Ranges sit under an Extreme Fire Danger rating, UV levels are forecast to peak at 13, and sun protection is essential for most of the day.

Sunday stays hot, easing slightly to a top of 37 degrees. Mostly sunny conditions will persist, with a warm overnight minimum of 19 degrees offering little overnight relief. Light to moderate winds and afternoon sea breezes may take the edge off along the coast, but inland areas will continue to feel oppressive.

Australia Day on Monday is shaping up to be the most intense day of the heatwave, with Adelaide forecast to reach a blistering 45 degrees. Sunny skies, very hot air and ongoing fire weather concerns will make it a challenging day for any outdoor plans.

The heat continues into Tuesday, with another hot day on the cards and temperatures expected to reach 39 degrees following a very warm overnight minimum of 29 degrees. By Wednesday, conditions begin to slowly ease, with highs dropping to 34 degrees under mostly sunny skies, before warming again later in the week.

Strong wind warnings for the following areas today, include the Lower West Coast, Central Coast, South Central Coast, Spencer Gulf, Gulf St Vincent and Investigator Strait.

From Friday, January 23 to Monday January 26 there are extreme heatwave warnings for the Mid North, Flinders and North West Pastoral Districts.

And a severe heatwave warning for Adelaide Metropolitan, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Upper South East, Lower South East, Riverland, Murraylands, West Coast, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula, North East Pastoral and Mount Lofty Ranges Districts.
