Brisbane Roar:
9th
Canberra United:

Round 13 result
Brisbane Roar: 1-1 draw with Melbourne City (H)
Canberra United: 2-0 loss to Wellington Phoenix (H)

Brisbane have been steady lately, with three draws and a win from their last four matches. Their last draw came against top of the league Melbourne City in the week, they equalised late through American Ashlyn Miller.

Canberra went down to 10 when Tegan Bertolissio was sent off just before half time, but it didn’t stop them dominating the chances against Wellington Phoenix.

Unfortunately for Canberra though, none of their 12 shots found the back of the net, whilst Wellington’s first shot on target in the 86th minute resulted in a goal, as did their second just minutes later.

With Bertolissio suspended for this match, Canberra will be forced into reshuffling their back line with Emma Robers likely to move across to centre-back.

Brisbane Roar will be sweating on the fitness of Japanese midfielder Momo Hayashi after she was forced off late against City with bad cramping in her legs.

Central Coast Mariners v Western Sydney Wanderers

Saturday January 24 – polytec Stadium – 5:00pm AEDT

Current table position
Central Coast Mariners: 3rd
Western Sydney Wanderers: 11th

Round 13 result
Central Coast Mariners: 1-1 draw with Perth Glory (H)
Western Sydney Wanderers: 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar (H)

It took a Peta Trimis olimpico to get Central Coast on the scoresheet against a resolute Perth defence, while Western Sydney’s late Ella Buchanan goal was cancelled out by an even later Roar equaliser.

Still searching for their first win since November, Western Sydney were dealt a big blow when Matilda Chloe Berryhill succumbed to a season, and indeed career-ending injury having only recently signed for the club.

Without Berryhill at the point of midfield, 17-year-old Talia Younis is presented with an opportunity to step up. Younis has created 13 chances in six starts this season, though she is yet to see one of those chances be converted into a goal.

Mariner Peta Trimis is in a neat run of form, scoring against the Glory and grabbing a goal and an assist against the Jets the week before.

When these sides met in mid-December, Central Coast won 2-1. Isabella Coco-Di Sipio and Isabel Gomez scored for the Mariners, while Talia Younis scored a late goal for the Wanderers.

Perth Glory v Melbourne City

Saturday January 24 – Sam Kerr Football Centre – 8:00pm AEDT

Current table position
Perth Glory:
7th
Melbourne City:
1st

Round 13 result
Perth Glory: 1-1 draw with Central Coast Mariners (A)
Melbourne City: 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar (A)

Both Perth Glory and Melbourne City were held to 1-1 draws after scoring first in their last matches.

Perth hit the front against Central Coast when Susan Phonsongkham blasted her shot in from close range for her third goal of the season and her second in two matches.

Some excellent goalkeeping from Teresa Morrissey kept the Mariners to one goal, earning Perth the point.

City’s goal came from the spot. Holly McNamara retook the outright lead in the golden boot with her fourth penalty of the season, taking her overall tally to nine.

It was a rare mistake from goalkeeper Malena Mieres though that saw Brisbane equalise. The Spaniard got both hands to Ashlyn Miller’s long range strike, but couldn’t keep it out.

These sides met just before the turn of the new year, Melbourne City took the points with a 3-1 win. Holly McNamara scored a hat-trick for City, while Bronte Trew grabbed one for Perth.

Wellington Phoenix v Adelaide United

Sunday January 25 – Porirua Park – 2:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Wellington Phoenix:
8th
Adelaide United: 4th

Round 13 result
Wellington Phoenix:
2-0 win over Canberra United (A)
Adelaide United: 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets (A)

Wellington put on a masterful display of defensive football to hold back a dominant Canberra United before teenage substitutes Zoe Benson and Pia Vlok scored two late counter attacking goals in an ultimate sucker punch.

After beating Melbourne Victory last weekend Adelaide then followed that up with a come-from-behind win over Newcastle Jets in midweek; substitutes Erin Healy and Carina Rossi getting the job done for the in-form Reds.

After a slow start to the season, Wellington are just one point off playing finals and three points off the top three.

Similarly, Adelaide have overcome their rough patch in December to be undefeated in their last five matches, four of which have been wins.

Melbourne Victory v Sydney FC

Sunday January 25 – Home of the Matildas – 5:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Melbourne Victory:
5th
Sydney FC:
11th

Round 13 result
Melbourne Victory: 2-1 loss to Adelaide United (A)
Sydney FC: Bye

Melbourne Victory have been on a slide since Christmas, winless in their last four matches. Sydney haven’t fared any better, winless in their last six.

Victory’s last loss against Adelaide was particularly painful, firstly Adelaide’s winner was scored by long-time Victory player Paige Zois, and then late in the match Rhianna Pollicina landed awkwardly on her arm, breaking her wrist on impact.

In their last match before their bye – a 2-1 loss to Newcastle – Sydney looked dangerous on the flanks. Riley Tanner created two chances from the left wing, while Milly Cassar scored their one goal with a long range strike from the right.

Both teams will be hoping this match is the one that can turn their season around. Victory to hold onto the top four battle, and Sydney to make a late push for finals football.
