If you caught the January edition of Philthy Radio this past weekend on Y-Not Radio (now streaming), you heard “Horror Show,” an early classic from dark-pop icons The Birthday Massacre that longtime fans may remember seeing the band play “back in the day” at The Trocadero and Starlight Ballroom. The Metropolis Records legends have played the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection countless times over the past three decades, including numerous stops at each of the aforementioned venues, in addition to performances at The Grape Room, Electric Factory, Underground Arts, and Theatre of Living Arts, where they will be returning tonight, January 20th.
Last night Baltimore Soundstage hosted opening night of the Dark Winter Tour, which features The Birthday Massacre co-headlining with German dark rockers Lord Of The Lost and opening duties handled by Wednesday 13 of Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13. The Birthday Massacre — whose live shows have always proven to be sugar-coated spectacles of teen angst — are currently touring 2025’s Pathways, which Vive Le Rock called their best collection yet: “Skillful interplay between electronic beats and goth sensibilities highlights the band at the very top of their game. Their strongest, most definitive album to date.”
In addition to recent music, The Birthday Massacre’s 16-song set Monday night in Baltimore featured a healthy handful of tracks from their earliest days, including “Blue,” “Video Kid,” and “Happy Birthday,” which have always proven to be highlights of the group’s several appearances at Dracula’s Ball, Philadelphia’s own ultimate goth party. Get your tickets to tonight’s show at The TLA below, listen to The Birthday Massacre’s latest single (“All Of You”), and check out this classic footage of the band performing “Blue,” courtesy of Metropolis Records.
