Brisbane Roar have confirmed head coach Michael Valkanis will return to the dugout ahead of this weekend’s Round 14 game with Adelaide United.
Valkanis missed his side’s impressive Round 13 win against Perth Glory to return to Greece in order to be by the side of his mother Filippina Valkanis, who sadly passed away over the weekend.

The club has now confirmed Valkanis will return to Brisbane ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Adelaide on Saturday afternoon at Suncorp Stadium.
“The Club continues to stand alongside and support Michael and his family during this difficult time,” said Brisbane Roar via a club statement.
“Michael has expressed his wish to return to Brisbane and continue his commitment to the Club, its members, and the wider community.
“Brisbane Roar thanks members and supporters for their understanding and compassion, as we look forward to welcoming Michael back at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday.”
The Roar defeated Perth Glory 2-1 last weekend, with assistant coach Borja Lema dedicating the win to Valkanis and his family in his post-match press conference.
Joining Valkanis and the Brisbane Roar first team squad at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday will be Socceroos forward Nick D’Agostino.
The 27-year-old has joined the Roar on loan for the remainder of the season from Norwegian club FK Viking as he bids to force his way into Socceroos head coach Tony Popovic’s squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
