KIIS 1023 replaces MIX 102.3 with Premier Peter Malinauskas leading first broadcast

Adelaide radio entered a new chapter, with MIX 102.3 relaunching today as KIIS 1023, signalling a major shift on the city’s FM dial.

The launch was marked by a standout opening broadcast, with South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas formally switching on KIIS 1023 and hosting the station’s very first hour live on air today from 8am to 9am.

The milestone moment featured a series of symbolic firsts, beginning with the inaugural song played on KIIS 1023. Local star Guy Sebastian kicked off the station with Get It Done, officially ushering in the new era for Adelaide listeners.

Listeners tuning in also heard the Premier give away the first major prize on KIIS 1023, awarding a set of Ed Sheeran double passes as part of the launch celebrations. Callers lucky enough to make it to air during the opening hour were also gifted a KIIS Day, a symbolic day off handed out by the Premier to mark the station’s debut.

While the branding may be new, KIIS 1023 is positioning itself as an evolution rather than a reinvention. The station will deliver even more of today’s biggest hit music, while continuing to offer the broad mix Adelaide audiences love, including favourites from the 80s, 90s and noughties.

Head of the KIIS Network Derek Bargwanna said the rebrand represented an evolution rather than a departure, delivering a fresh sound while maintaining the familiarity and variety audiences have come to expect.

“This is a huge moment for Adelaide radio as KIIS 1023 gives us the opportunity to lift the energy of the station and create bigger, more engaging moments on air, while still delivering the variety Adelaide listeners expect,” Derek said.

The station’s breakfast lineup will initially be led by popular South Australian media personality Bec Morse, who will host weekdays from 6am to 10am. Her Most Music Breakfast will take listeners through to one of the most anticipated returns to local radio later this year.

From April 1, Ben and Liam will officially return to Adelaide radio, taking over the KIIS 1023 breakfast program and bringing their trademark humour, energy and strong local connection back to South Australian airwaves.

Across the workday, KIIS 1023 will continue its commitment to local voices, with Ryan ‘Burgo’ Burgess hosting weekdays from 10am to 3pm and delivering a soundtrack tailored for Adelaide’s workday.

“We are encouraging all Adelaideans to tune into 1023 as it officially becomes KIIS 1023,” Derek said.
