Young Squash Star Hospitalized Following Serious Injury During International Tournament

Pakistan’s leading junior squash player Mehwish Ali suffered a serious injury after colliding with her opponent during the semi-final of the Czech Junior Open 2026.

According to reports, Mehwish, representing Pakistan in the World Squash Federation (WSF) Junior Gold Circuit, was competing in the Girls U17 semi-final in Prague when the incident occurred. She was leading 2–1 in games when, during the fourth game, she ran into her rival and went down in pain.

Witnesses said Mehwish remained on the court for a considerable time due to the severity of the impact before receiving immediate assistance. She was later shifted to a local hospital for further treatment and is currently being cared for in the ICU.

Her family has said her condition is improving, and they have appealed for prayers for her quick recovery. Mehwish’s father and coach, Arif Ali, stated that she is now stable, but added that continued support and prayers from the public are requested.

Earlier in the tournament, Mehwish booked her semi-final spot with a 3–0 win over Poland’s Hanna Rubel.

In another result from the event, Mehwish’s sister Saharish Ali, also from Peshawar, was knocked out of the Girls U15 semi-final after losing to the tournament’s second seed, Czech player Joha Nari Hakova. She will now compete for the bronze medal.
