Western Sydney Wanderers have had their hearts broken in stoppage time at Wanderers Football Park, with a late Brisbane Roar equaliser compounding what appears to be a bad injury to Chloe Berryhill.
The Wanderers looked likely to snap a seven match winless streak when Ella Buchanan pushed a Kim So-Eun cross in to the net in the 83rd minute.
However two hammer blows came in the next 10 minutes, with first Berryhill appearing to injure her knee and then Bente Jansen scoring almost immediately from the restart of play.
Berryhill went down clutching her knee after a challenge with Alicia Woods where the appeared to clash legs and had to be stretchered off.
The Wanderers players could have been forgiven for still being rattled when Jansen took advantage a lucky bounce from an attempted clearance and ran 40 metres to expertly finish past Sham Khamis.
The draw was arguably deserved for Brisbane, who dominated most statistical categories, but it will be Western Sydney who will wonder what could have been after leading as late as the 95th minute.
The draw means that the Wanderers’ winless streak will extend for another eight days at least, and leaves them bottom of the table and four points adrift of Sydney FC who have a game in hand over their local rivals.
They next play an in-form Central Coast Mariners at polytec Stadium.
Brisbane, meanwhile move to fifth on the table ahead of a game against Canberra United at Spencer Park next Friday night.
