Ajax Sign Football Legend’s Son on Loan

Ajax have signed Maximilian Ibrahimovic, the 19-year-old son of former Ajax striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, on loan from AC Milan until the end of the season.

The agreement includes an option for Ajax to make the move permanent in the summer.

Ajax director of football Marijn Beuker said Ibrahimovic, a right-footed winger, will mainly play for the club’s under-23 team this season. However, he will also be gradually integrated into the first team, with the long-term goal of becoming a permanent member of Ajax’s senior attacking squad.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is widely regarded as one of Sweden’s greatest footballers and one of the top strikers of his generation. He remains Sweden’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Zlatan began his professional career at Malmo before joining Ajax in 2001. He played for the Amsterdam club from 2001 to 2004, scoring 48 goals in 110 appearances. His performances earned him a move to Juventus.

Over his career, Zlatan also played for Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and LA Galaxy, before retiring at AC Milan in 2023.

Maximilian Ibrahimovic joined AC Milan’s youth academy in 2022 after leaving Hammarby IF’s academy in Sweden. He said he is focused on building his own career rather than being compared to his father.

“I want to write my own story. I’m my own person, my player, and I’m here to do my own thing,” Maximilian said in an interview with the club.

Maximilian also noted that he and his father are very different players. He said they do not play the same position, he is several inches shorter, and does not believe they look alike.
