A six-year-old girl was gang-raped and murdered in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, police said. The accused allegedly threw the child from a rooftop after the assault to conceal their identity.
The incident occurred late on January 2. Police said they received information that a minor girl was found in a critically injured condition. She was rushed to the Community Health Centre Sikandrabad, where doctors declared her dead.
On the complaint of the girl’s father, police registered a case under Sections 70(2) and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5(m) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In his complaint, the father said that two men, Raju and Veeru Kashyap, were living as tenants in the same building.
He said his daughter was playing on the rooftop and was later found lying in a field behind the building. He suspected that the two men had sexually assaulted the child and then killed her.
Taking cognisance of the gravity of the case, the Senior Superintendent of Police formed three teams to arrest the accused. Police later received information that the suspects were hiding at Idris’s premises in an under-construction colony.
When the Sikandrabad police team surrounded the area, the accused allegedly opened fire at the police. Police retaliated, injuring both Raju and Veeru Kashyap in their legs during the encounter. Police arrested them in an injured condition and admitted them to a hospital for treatment.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime, police said. Further investigation is underway.
