Rumor has it that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will marry at the Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, this June — steps away from Swift’s vacation house. The rumors are not confirmed, but even without a global pop star and her football-player fiancé, the Ocean House is a landmark in the world of luxury travel.

It’s the only five-star hotel in Rhode Island; in the summer, a night’s stay in one of the 46 guest rooms or 23 suites costs well over $1,000. It’s a posh place in a posh town — aside from Swift, Watch Hill summer residents have included Hugh Jackman and Conan O’Brien. High on a bluff overlooking Block Island Sound, the hotel originally opened for business in 1868, but in 2010, it was rebuilt from the ground up.
In addition to its guest rooms and suites, the Ocean House has 20 condominium units, all of which quickly sold after the 2010 construction. They rarely come up for sale as owners prefer to rent them out via the hotel’s accommodations rental program. But now, the largest and most glamorous of those units has come on the market. At $20 million, it is also one of the most expensive condominiums for sale right now in the region.

“This is an extraordinary property, created when two units were combined into one,” said William Hecker of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties, who listed the property a few days ago.
Located on the top floor of the hotel and measuring 4,696 square feet, the penthouse unit includes the hotel’s picturesque gazebo, a 2,400 square-foot private terrace, and spectacular views of both the Atlantic and Little Narragansett Bay.
“When you walk out on the deck, you’re looking out over the Atlantic Ocean,” Hecker said. “The sun rises in the morning over the Atlantic, and sets behind you over Fishers Island.”

The home features three spacious bedrooms and a total of four bathrooms, including a half bath on the outdoor terrace. Because two units were combined to create this one, there are two elegant living rooms. Other living spaces include a formal dining room, a media room/den, a laundry closet, a spacious, luxuriously equipped eat-in kitchen, and a pantry.

The rooms are flooded with natural light and feature architectural elements including fine millwork, peaked ceilings, large skylights, and several fireplaces, including one in the primary suite. All the living spaces were designed by Leslie Holland Hecker of Cobble Court Interiors of Connecticut and Florida, and include features such as arched doorways, Corinthean columns, cathedral ceilings, deeply recessed window openings, and deep crown moldings.

Access to the home is via a private, accessible elevator, and four parking spaces come with the home. Two are outdoors, while two are in the hotel’s underground garage. This home also meets accessibility standards with extra wide halls and doors.
“Ownership includes membership to the Ocean House Club,” Hecker explained. “That gives you access to the lap pool, gym, spa, the wine cellar and tasting room, the private beach, and all the hotel’s dining options. The fitness center also offers yoga and Pilates classes.”

Life at the Ocean House is refined and elegant, surrounded by beautiful natural vistas. And, who knows? Perhaps it will even provide a front-row seat at the most glamorous wedding of the year.
