With an electrifying atmosphere, a sizzling culinary scene and rooftop bars galore, Thailand’s capital city knows how to have a good time. At Urban List, we reckon the best hotels in Bangkok are all about sky-high luxury, Michelin-starred restaurants, and day spas that transport you to another realm of relaxation.
Now that we’ve set the scene (although, let’s face it, The White Lotus season three probs sent you into Thailand holiday research mode a while back), here are the best hotels in Bangkok.
333 Charoennakorn Road, Klong-Tonsai, Klongsan, Khlong San, 10600 Bangkok
The Peninsula Bangkok
Located on ‘the peninsula’ (a.k.a. Chao Phraya River), The Peninsula Bangkok is a five-star delight. With up to nine complimentary activities on offer every day ranging from Monk-led meditation to cooking classes, you’ll want to spend all of your time at the hotel—but if you decide on an outing, The Peninsula offers free boat and tuk tuk transportation to some of Bangkok’s biggest icons including the ICONSIAM (southeast Asia’s largest shopping centre) and the Jam Factory.
The luxurious guest rooms provide exceptional views of the river, and come equipped with a dressing room, lounge area, electronic curtains, mood lighting and a bath. Wake every morning to a fresh, complimentary platter of fruits delivered to your room or indulge in 24/7 room service. While we’re on the topic of indulging, guests can book an exclusive, one-group-a-night Mei Jiang nine-course meal where they can watch the master chefs at work, or have drinks and tasty treats delivered to them in their private, traditional salas by the pool. Still not feeling relaxed? The Peninsula Spa offers massages, facials, and even a healing programme consisting of vibrational sound and therapeutic touch therapy.
991/9 Rama I Road, Pathumwan, 10330 Bangkok
Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok
Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, located where Lotus Pond Palace once resided, and commissioned by King Rama IV, ensures guests will enjoy grandeur and luxury reminiscent of its royal past. The grounds of the hotel house the private residence of a Princess of Thailand, Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and if it’s good enough for royalty it’s certainly good enough for us. This five-star urban oasis in the heart of the “City of Angels” aims to combine Kempinski’s European elegance with traditional Thai style and service. Enjoy the hotel, art museum and spa experiences in one go, as the hotel-resort is home to over 2,000 works of local art and a bespoke spa with treatments tailored to each guest’s personal needs.
Start your day the right way at The Addition, an international buffet with al fresco dining available amongst serene greenery, full of healthy, gourmet dishes and freshly baked pastries. Complete your day at one of the first ever restaurants to be awarded a Michelin star, Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, a restaurant that experiments with traditional, Thai ingredients, creating a culinary experience like no other.
114 Naradhiwat Rajanagarindra Road, Silom, Bang Rak, 10500 Bangkok
The Standard
Described as “achingly hip” by Vogue Singapore, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon oozes cool vibes with interior designs by Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon. There is a zebra-striped boozy tearoom, a cocktail bar in the sky and a terrace pool flanked by retro yellow-and-white umbrellas and sun loungers.
Thailand’s highest restaurant, Ojo, serves up innovative Mexican dishes amid glamorous pink-and-gold-themed interiors. In your room, expect sweeping Bangkok views, custom robes and Nespresso coffee machines, plus the colourful furnishings that are the hotel’s signature.
61 Wireless Road (Witthayu), Lumpini, Pathumwan, 10330 Bangkok
The Athenee Hotel
With grand staircases, a marble foyer and some seriously swish chandeliers, the five-star Athenee is the sort of hotel that puts the bang into Bangkok. It sits on the grounds of Kandhavas—the palace of Princess Valaya Alongkorn—and it’s got a lush garden and a lagoon-style pool that just calls out for some full-on chillaxing.
Book yourself in for a body scrub at the Forbes-certified Athénée Spa, or perhaps a wander up to the free-form rooftop pool might be just the thing (a swim followed by a cheeky cocktail perhaps?). Later, how about digging into a curated tasting menu or traditional Teishoku Japanese set lunch at the on-site Japanese eatery Hashiri. Come nightfall, Glaz Bar’s the place to go for tapas, and music—or you can head out into the bright lights of the city where more fun stuff awaits.
1041/38 Phloen Chit Road Lumpini, Pathumwan, 10330 Bangkok
Rosewood Bangkok
Tradition meets sophistication at Rosewood Bangkok, located in the centre of the retail district and offering guests some incredibly unique dining and relaxation experiences. Rejuvenate your senses at Sense, A Rosewood Spa—the spa where results are the top priority, whether you’re after a healing massage or a fresh set of nails. And then for dinner, farm-to-table, and then table-to-stomach dining is on offer at restaurant G&O, whose focus is organic, healthy and locally sourced meals. For a late-night treat, Lennon’s—the top-floor speakeasy bar hidden behind a whisky library—allows guests to be their own mid-century DJ, with over 6000 vinyls available to be played or purchased.
Take in panoramic views of the city skyline from the comfort of your room, or witness them at Nan Bei, the authentic Chinese restaurant located inside the hotel. You might even like to enjoy the views while working up a sweat at the Rosewood fitness studio or wading in the saltwater lap pool.
3/2 Thanon Khao, Vachirapayabal, Dusit, 10300 Bangkok
The Siam
The star treatment at The Siam in Bangkok begins as soon as you check in as each of this Thailand hotel’s 38 suites and villas comes with a personal butler. Hell yeah! Each room in the art-deco inspired hotel, which is set on three lush acres of garden on the Chao Phraya River, comes with extra-large king-sized beds and high ceilings.
Described by the hotel’s architect, Bill Bensley, as “part hotel, part resort, part museum”, it comes as no surprise that The Siam displays thousands of artworks and antiques from the owner’s personal collection. From cooking classes to cocktail boat cruises at sunset, and from a library with a cinema to a spa offering all sorts of treatments and private wellness classes, it makes sense that The Siam is listed as one of the The World’s 50 Best Hotels.
21/100 South Sathon Road, Sathorn, 10120 Bangkok
Banyan Tree Bangkok
If you’re looking for a high-flying hotel, the multi-award-winning Banyan Tree Bangkok shoots for the stars. This five-star stay is housed in one of Asia’s tallest buildings, so a drink at the rooftop watering hole Moon Bar is a must. At 61 floors up, the sunset views alone are worth the trip, but the cocktails are what will make you stay a while – order a Vertigo Sunset (Pampero Blanco Rum, Malibu, pineapple, cranberry and lime) and something light from the restaurant to settle in.
Some floors down, rooms and suites enjoy equal bragging rights to impressive outlooks. All rooms and suites have separate living spaces, bathrooms with tubs and either city or river views.
300/2 Charoenkrung Road, Yannawa, Sathorn, 10120 Bangkok
Capella Bangkok
Some hotels are special enough to pull focus from the destination itself and Capella Bangkok is one of them. This swish stay was named the No.1 Best Hotel in the World in the global ranking of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024. And we tend to agree. Inside, the hotel is all marble floors, Thai teak latticework, and chandeliers in chrome and crystal.
The Michelin-starred Côte by Mauro Colagreco promises refined Mediterranean-inspired dishes from a daily changing menu. The 101 rooms, suites and villas all have views of Chao Phraya River, plus guests receive bubbles on arrival and a complimentary minibar. For something extra special, book a room with a jacuzzi plunge pool on the balcony.
13/3, 28/1-4 South Sathorn Road, Thungmahamek, Sathorn, 10120 Bangkok
The Sukhothai Bangkok
The Sukhothai Bangkok was designed to resemble the palaces of the ancient Sukhothai Kingdom – reflection pools, perfectly symmetrical colonnades, open-air galleries and an abundance of bronze, teakwood and marble. The hotel’s seven bars and restaurants have one goal in mind: to keep you coming back for more.
Celadon offers classic Thai cuisine in a lily pond-adjacent pavilion, and the sumptuous Sunday brunch at Colonnade is weekend decadence at its most delicious with Alaskan king crab, Maine lobster, Sicilian brown crab and oysters. Sleep it off afterwards in your room or suite in either the Club or Main Wing.
48 Soi Charoenkrung40, Charoenkrung Rd. Bangrak, 10500 Bangkok
Mandarin Oriental
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is a magnet to foodies everywhere thanks to its Michelin-starred restaurant Anne-Sophie Pic At Le Normandie (it’s got two Michelin stars actually). Here, French fine dining is presented amid velvet upholstery, sunset river panoramas and crystal chandeliers. The rest of the hotel is just as impressive. Head to the spa when you’re not wining and dining in any of the other ten (yes, ten) restaurants and bars.
With a Forbes Five-Star award under its belt, The Oriental Spa has set the standard for wellness in Thailand since 1993, promising a tranquil lotus pond and treatments including traditional Thai massages, cleansing rituals with eucalyptus and a Moroccan hammam experience with mud masks and olive pit body polishes.
80 Soi Tonson, Lumphini, Pathumwan, 10330 Bangkok
Sindhorn Kempinski
Kempinski is synonymous with luxury and its outpost in Bangkok, the Sindhorn, is no exception. There is an entire floor dedicated to Sindhorn Wellness by Resense, home to eight treatment rooms where world-class practitioners await to pamper you with Thai massages, lifting facials, body polishes and hammam experiences.
Unusually for a city hotel, the suites are abundant with space and natural light, with breezy balconies overlooking the city and separate living rooms with dining space. Each suite stay offers access to Thermal Journeys, a series of wellness benefits including access to an infinity pool overlooking Lumphini Park, a bio sauna and an aroma steam room.
257 Charoennakorn Road, Samrae, Thonburi, 10600 Bangkok
Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort
The Bangkok buzz feels miles away when you stay at Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort, located only a 20-minute drive from the city centre, on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Surrounded by lush jungle, with a smorgasbord of wellness and lifestyle activities, the hotel is a breath of fresh air in the metropolis. Sunrise yoga, Thai herbal compress workshops, tennis lessons, happy hour and live music are a recipe for a good time.
Keen for a good feed? You’ll be spoiled for choice with ten restaurants at your fingertips. Longtail River Bar and Lounge is a particular favourite, offering Thai bites and cocktails on the water’s edge. Order some spicy pork balls and settle in for an afternoon to indulgence. If international flavours are more your thing, head up to SEEN Restaurant & Bar and drink in that city skyline.
