The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court expressed strong criticism of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders following a chaotic public event, noting that party chief Vijay fled from the scene of occurrence.
Justice Senthilkumar highlighted the inaction of the police and reserved orders on anticipatory bail petitions filed by TVK leaders Bussy Anand and CTR Nirmal Kumar.
Senior counsel V Raghavachari, representing both Anand and Nirmal Kumar, argued that the petitioners had no intention to harm their own cadres and that the incident should not be classified as culpable homicide. He accused the police of failing to provide adequate protection and said the venue was not chosen by the petitioners.
“If Velusamypuram was objectionable, the police ought to have rejected the petitioners’ request,” Raghavachari stated. He added that the crowd went berserk due to a lathi charge and questioned why such measures were taken.
