Three workers die of suspected asphyxiation in Mission Bhagiratha sump accident in Bhadradri Kothagudem – Telangana News

Three workers lost their lives and another was hospitalised after suspected asphyxiation while working inside a sump for a Mission Bhagiratha drinking water project in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

The incident occurred when one worker fainted inside the sump in Unjupalli village in Cherla mandal, prompting his colleagues to rush in to rescue him. However, due to lack of oxygen, they too collapsed.

Three workers died in the accident, while another was shifted to the Government Area Hospital in Bhadrachalam. The injured worker is said to be out of danger, according to Sub-Inspector Narsi Reddy.

Following the tragedy, families of the deceased staged a protest at the Cherla mandal headquarters. They demanded Rs 30 lakh compensation and a government job for each bereaved family. Police and revenue officials reached the spot to pacify the protestors, and discussions are underway to address their demands.

In May, two men died and three others were left in critical condition after entering a sewage tank at a dyeing factory in Karaipudhur, Thiruppur, Tamil Nadu.

All five, working in the apparel sector, reportedly fainted within seconds due to toxic fumes while cleaning the tank. The two who died, identified as Saravanan and Venugopal, were declared dead at a private hospital.
